Can you believe that we are losing approximately 150 gallons of water per minute due to leaky faucets and running toilets?

Yes, it’s true! Dripping faucets and running toilets waste your money!

As we noticed a steady increase in our water bill over the past several months, Council has addressed this issue multiple times. Through the help of our water supplier, PA American Water Company, it has come to our attention that there are several units experiencing water leaks and/or are losing water from running toilets and/or faucets, resulting in an additional $2000 increased water usage charge per month. Our water usage bill is already the most expensive line item in our budget at a rate of $65,000+ annually. With the existing amount of daily consumption, there is no simple way other than to conserve water to reduce the impact on our budget. Now with severe water loss, we are dealing with an incredible increase on top of an already extraordinary bill.

At the advice of PA American Water Company, we hired a Water Leak Detection Specialist to inspect the water main lines throughout the development, as well as those feeding each building of our community. During his inspection, he was able to detect that this severe water loss is thankfully not from any water mains or hydrants on our property. However, he was able to identify specific buildings as losing water due to possible leaky faucets and/or running toilets. We have sent out letters to those units who will require further inspection.

To pinpoint the exact source of the water loss, our Maintenance staff will quickly inspect all the units where water leakage was detected. The inspection will last about 5-10 minutes and will consist of a visual and auditory inspection of interior water lines, specifically for sink and tub faucets, toilets and hot water heaters of each unit within the suspect buildings. It is our hope that with the cooperation of our residents we can quickly detect the source and have it addressed so that we can cease this wasteful loss of water and excess monthly expense.

If you suspect a water leak or running toilet in your home, please contact our Maintenance Office at your earliest convenience at 610.948.6105 to schedule a day and time for them to gain access to the interior of your unit to perform this inspection. It is quick and painless, and will help to eliminate unnecessary water loss.

We are asking for complete cooperation so we are able to quickly discover the source of this leakage, as it is costing us upwards of $25,000 extra per year in unnecessary water loss.

Thanking you in advance for a speedy resolve, especially during this holiday season!
